چکیده

Background: C-reactive protein (CRP) is an acute-phase reactant protein synthesized by the liver in response to acute stress in a wide range of acute and chronic inflammatory conditions. In healthy subjects and patients presenting with coronary artery disease (CAD), elevated levels of CRP has repeatedly been demonstrated to predict future cardiovascular events. Methods: We measured high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) levels in 382 consecutive patients with CAD and 60 healthy controls by immunoturbidimetry method. Risk factors like hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidaemia, smoking, obesity and family history of premature CAD were assessed. Results: The mean age of patients with CAD was 53.5±11.8 years (303 males) and that of control group was 50.83±8.07(28 males). The patient group had significant higher concentration of mean hs-CRP levels when compared with the healthy control group (1.8±1.9 mg/L vs 0.35±1.1 mg/L, p<0.001). The mean hs-CRP levels of unstable angina (USA) and myocardial infarction (MI) patients was higher than chronic stable angina (CSA) patients (p<0.05). Based on the disease severity, we found a significantly higher hs-CRP levels in patients of triple vessel disease when compared to patients with single vessel disease (p=0.01). Conclusions: Elevated serum hs-CRP levels provide a useful marker for cardiovascular risk which, when combined with traditional risk factors, may help improve global risk prediction. Our study showed a significant contribution of hs-CRP to coronary risk prediction with better discrimination.

Association of Inflammatory Mediators with Coronary Artery Disease in Diabetic Patients

Background and Objectives: Coronary artery disease (CAD) is regarded as the leading cause of morbidity and mortality around the world. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is associated with the development of CAD and increased risk of morbidity and mortality. The goal of this study was to assess the association of tumor necrosis factorα (TNF-α) and high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) with CAD severi...

EVALUATION OF SERUM CHITINASE-3 LIKE 1 PROTEIN AND C-REACTIVE PROTEIN LEVELS IN TYPE 2 DIABETES MELLITUS WITH CORONARY ARTERY DISEASE COMPARED TO DIABETIC AND HEALTHY CONTROL

Background: Diabetes mellitus, which is associated with elevated blood glucose, lipids and liver enzymes, may results in alterations in the production of inflammatory cytokines, including chitinase-3-like protein 1 (YKL-40) and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), which induce and promote complications of diabetes such as atherosclerosis. The aim of this study was to evaluate the serum ...

Abstract Background: Coronary artery disease, (CAD) is an important risk for morbidity and mortality. Because of controversial reports about relation between high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) level and the severity of coronary artery stenosis, this study was done in Taleghani Hospital. Methods: In this case-control study 85 patients with CAD undergoing coronary angiography were ...

Investigating relationship between C- reactive protein and obesity in adults

Introduction: Association between plasma high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (CRP) concentrations and cardiovascular disease has been Investigated. C-reactive protein (CRP) is an acute phase reactant which is a marker of inflammation in the body. CRP is made by the liver in response to inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNFα). Adipose ti...

Prognostic value of C-Reactive Protein in Acute Coronary Syndromes

Introduction: Coronary artery disease (CAD) is among the most common, serious, chronic and life- threatening illnesses in the world. CAD represents a spectrum of conditions, with acute myocardial infarction at one end of it and silent ischemia at the other. There is growing evidence on importance of prognosis of C- reactive protein (CPR) in unstable angina and this protein is a maker of an adve...
